MTN Uganda, through its Mobile Money (MoMo) arm, has announced a partnership with the West Nile Rural Electrification Company (WENRECo). This collaboration is aimed at ensuring that the residents of the West Nile region have ready access to electricity tokens.
If you are familiar with the region, you will take note that West Nile is one of those areas that struggle with electricity access in Uganda. For a partnership like this, this is not just about buying power; it’s about empowering a whole region, aligning seamlessly with MTN Uganda’s theme, “Together we are unstoppable.”
The telecom states that this is a partnership that goes hand-in-hand with MTN Uganda’s Ambition 2025 vision, which revolves around harnessing innovative digital solutions to drive the nation’s progress forward.
WENRECo, since its inception in 2003, has been a delivered hope for the West Nile region by providing electricity to the remotest of areas.
Their work includes powering 30 health centers, 60 schools, 250 businesses, and 6,000 households between 2013 and 2015. With a 25-year license from the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), their service has expanded over the years, covering districts like Arua, Nebbi, and Maracha, among others.
On the other hand, MTN MoMo has been a trailblazer in the digitization of payments and financial services across Uganda. Their influence has revolutionized the financial landscape, providing millions with convenient access to vital financial solutions.
Their ambitious 2025 strategy is not just a vision but a promise – a promise of leveraging digital solutions to catalyze Africa’s progress, ensuring that every individual experiences the benefits of a connected life.
From the 31st of October 2023, this partnership will enable customers in the West Nile region to seamlessly purchase electricity tokens via MTN Mobile Money, making their lives a tad bit easier and a lot more efficient.

- Dial *165*4# on your mobile phone.
- Enter ‘1’ for “Utilities”.
- Select “WENRECo” by entering ‘7’.
- Choose “Buy Power Token” with ‘1’.
- Input your Meter Number.
- Specify your desired Amount.
- Securely enter your personal PIN.
