UCC was established by the Uganda Communications Act 2013 (the Act) as the regulator in developing a modern communications sector that includes telecommunications, broadcasting, radio communications, postal communications, data communications, and infrastructure.
The portal will be used for applying for a frequency and thus a new/amended Radio Frequency Spectrum Authorization. Applicants can use it to renew or vary a Radio Frequency Spectrum Authorization. The web portal can be used to apply for approval of any changes to any of the authorized technical parameters for operating a radio station or apparatus.
Users will also be able to report prevailing or occurrence of radio communications interference. It will also be used for updating and/or reporting on the respective station’s compliance with obligations under the Radio Frequency Spectrum Authorization.
Radio communications services that will be supported by the new frequency spectrum portal include;
- Two-way Radiocommunication services – applicable to Fixed Radio, Mobile Radio, Handheld, and Alarm systems.
- Aeronautical service – applicable to all Aircraft radiocommunications systems.
- Maritime service – applicable to water vessels, ships, boats, and ferries.
- Satellite service – applicable to Earth Station and user terminals e.g., VSAT, Broadband Global Area Network terminals, and other devices.
- Amateur Two-way radio service – applicable to all amateur radio services.
- FM Radio Broadcasting Services.
