    Huawei honored for Cybersecurity Leadership and Innovation at EAIGF

    Huawei has been recognized for its significant contributions to cybersecurity in Eastern Africa, receiving the esteemed Eastern Africa Cybersecurity Leadership and Innovation Award at the East Africa Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF).

    This event, held on September 11th and 12th at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, Uganda, gathered key stakeholders to discuss the future of internet governance in the region.

    The award highlights Huawei’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity and fostering innovation within the digital landscape of Eastern Africa.

    The company’s initiatives have played a crucial role in strengthening the region’s cybersecurity infrastructure, ensuring a safer and more resilient digital environment for both businesses and communities.

    In her acceptance speech, Ms. Zhangdongxia, Chief Cybersecurity Officer of Huawei Southern Africa, expressed her gratitude, stating, “We are deeply honored to receive the Eastern Africa Cybersecurity Leadership and Innovation Award. This accolade is a testament to our unwavering commitment to advancing cybersecurity and driving digital innovation across Eastern Africa. At Huawei, we believe that a secure digital ecosystem is the foundation for sustainable development and economic growth. We will continue to collaborate with governments, industry partners, and local communities to build a safer, more inclusive digital future for all.”

    The EAIGF serves as a vital platform for dialogue on internet governance policies and practices, and Huawei’s recognition at this forum underscores its dedication to bridging the digital divide and promoting digital inclusion throughout the region.

    A commitment to cybersecurity

    Huawei’s award comes at a time when cybersecurity is more critical than ever. With the rapid digital transformation across Africa, the need for robust cybersecurity measures is paramount. 

    Huawei has been proactive in this arena, demonstrating its leadership through various initiatives aimed at enhancing cybersecurity frameworks and practices.

    The company is also set to showcase its cybersecurity capabilities at the upcoming GISEC Global 2024, themed “Towards a Trusted, Resilient and Fully Connected Intelligent World.” 

    This event will allow Huawei to further demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding organizations during their digital transformation journeys, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity and privacy protection as essential tools for success in today’s digital landscape.

    Dr. Aloysius Cheang, Chief Security Officer for Huawei Middle East & Central Asia, stated, “Through our participation in GISEC Global 2024, we aim to strengthen our collaboration with our partners and customers to build a secure ecosystem, share our experiences and protect security and privacy in the new digital frontier.”
