TECNO Camon 15 Unboxing and First impressions

TECNO Mobile recently partnered with MTN Uganda to launch the Camon 15 here with some pretty exciting perks like free data. We managed to get one in our hands and these are our first impressions.

The Camon series is revered for its camera prowess and it will be the main point of discussion as we go on. However, camera modules always work in tandem with other parts of the phone like processors, the operating system, accessories among others so what does whole package have to offer?

    Out of the box

We got the standard Camon 15 of the 64GB + 4GB ROM and RAM configuration respectively and the only difference between it and super beefed Camon 15 Premier is the spec sheet.

Besides its compact size, the phone is packed alongside a standard micro-USB cable, charger, stereo headsets, some paperwork, SIM card ejector with the icing on the cake being the inclusion of a screen protector and a plastic phone cover.

One area i’ll give the Camon 15 props for, is it’s compact design much as it added more weight, owing to its thickness and a beefier 5000mAh battery.  It feels comfortable to hold in the hands. It is also a fingerprint magnet so the added cover comes in handy.

It has a plastic unibody design with the camera array at the upper left corner and a fingerprint sensor right next to it. The usual port selection of micro-USB, 3.5mm headphone jack are all here together with physical volume  rockers and power on button.

The TECNO Camon 15 has a plastic look and feel about it but this shouldn’t fool you, it really felt solid in the hands.

Surprisingly it comes with a 6.6” dot-in HD+ display but it’s compact nature somewhat makes it feel a little small on the hands. This could be because I’m coming from a phone with a larger footprint but there you have it.

    The Cameras

Out of the box, outdoor shots are great from the it’s main cameras but we are interested more in the TAIVOS tech that TECNO has a fronting on the Camon 15, we are still putting it to test with the upcoming review.

Camons are known for great cameras and the Camon 15 seems to continue with that legacy. However, these days it’s not just about still photos but night mode, macro mode, crisp videos, and so on but still, it comes with dedicated sensors to address some if not the above concerns which we are putting to test.

    Other specs’

I’d only complain of the screen for its HD+ resolution but combined with the rest of the specs, and the price, it passes. Besides the main 48MP Quad rear camera and its 16MP selfie counterpart, the Camon 15 packs an impressive spec sheet with a large 5000mAh battery, a 2.0GHz Octa-Core processor, 64GB + 4GB of ROM and RAM respectively.

All this powered by Android 10 though the phone ships with TECNOs HiOS skin, which also feels fluid to navigate.

    The experience

So far the phone runs well with little to no complaint. Also, that 3GB of free data that comes with the purchase of this phone will come in handy since the phone occasionally prompts you to download some updates and that will offset your data bill.

    Verdict?

It’s too early to come to conclusion, that will be reserved for the review where we shall be able to highlight pros and cons of the Camon 15 and whether you should go ahead and spend UGX 688,000 to buy it.
