YouTube upgrades Erase Song tool to remove copyrighted audio

YouTube has rolled out an enhanced “Erase Song” tool within its YouTube Studio platform. This upgraded feature empowers users to selectively remove copyrighted music from their videos while preserving other crucial audio elements like dialogue, sound effects, and background noise.

Previously available in beta, the Erase Song tool has now been refined to leverage advanced AI-driven algorithms that can precisely identify and mute copyrighted songs within specific video segments.

This marks a significant improvement over the platform’s previous content ID system, which would often result in the muting of an entire video if any copyrighted material was detected.

The streaming platform states that by surgically removing the offending music, you can now keep the rest of the video’s audio intact, preserving the overall viewing experience for their audience.”

However, YouTube acknowledges that the tool may not work flawlessly in every scenario, particularly for complex musical compositions. In such cases, creators are given the option to mute all audio within the flagged sections that contain the copyrighted material.

Once the Erase Song edits have been successfully applied, YouTube’s content ID system will automatically lift the copyright claim, providing creators with a streamlined solution to address these issues.

The tool will soon be accessible directly within YouTube Studio, offering users a more efficient way to manage copyright-related challenges within their video content.

It’s worth noting that the processing time for the Erase Song tool can vary, and YouTube has cautioned that the tool may not work for videos with over 100,000 views, unless the channel is enrolled in the YouTube Partner Program.

Additionally, creators are advised not to close the browser window during the processing, as this could prevent the changes from being saved.
