Google has announced that it is rolling out its cutting-edge AI feature, Gemini Live, to all Android users for free. Previously, the AI tool was only accessible to those with a Gemini Advanced subscription, which costs $20 per month.
However, this exciting development means that anyone with an Android device can now experience the power of conversational AI without any additional cost.
What is Gemini Live?
Gemini Live is a revolutionary feature that allows users to engage in natural, free-flowing conversations with an AI assistant.
Unlike traditional voice assistants that provide simple answers to questions, this feature enables a more dynamic and interactive experience. Users can interrupt the AI, ask follow-up questions, and even change the direction of the conversation as it progresses.
The feature is accessible through the Gemini app on Android devices. To use Gemini Live, simply tap on the new circular waveform icon with a sparkle in the bottom-right corner of the app or overlay.
This will open a fullscreen interface with “Hold” and “End” buttons at the bottom, allowing you to control the conversation.
Key features
Gemini Live uses advanced language processing to understand context and engage in back-and-forth exchanges, just like talking to another person.
Users can interrupt it with new information or directions, allowing for a more fluid and dynamic conversation. After a conversation ends, Gemini Live will provide a textual transcript of the prompts and responses, which can be used to restart the conversation later.
Gemini Live offers 10 new voices with varying tones and accents, including calm, engaged, bright, energetic, and a British accent. While the tool is currently only available in English, Google has stated that support for more languages is coming soon.
Benefits of using Gemini Live
Gemini Live can help users brainstorm ideas, explore new topics, and solve complex problems through interactive conversations. The conversational nature of the tool can stimulate creative thinking and provide fresh perspectives on various subjects.
With Gemini Live, users can engage with the AI assistant without the need for typing, making it a convenient option for on-the-go use. By making it free for all Android users, Google has democratized access to this powerful AI tool, allowing more people to benefit from its capabilities.
The future
Google has stated that future updates to Gemini Live will include support for Extensions, which will allow the AI to integrate with other Google services like Gmail, YouTube Music, and Maps. This integration will further enhance the capabilities of AI tool and make it an even more valuable tool for users.
