In case you missed the memo, the Yaka meter upgrade is a crucial software enhancement designed to ensure the continued efficiency of your meter post-November 2024. This update aims to safeguard your customer vending experience by introducing key changes to the existing system.

Umeme consumers stand to benefit significantly from this upgrade, as it guarantees uninterrupted meter functionality. This means your meters will continue to operate seamlessly without any vending challenges, preserving the overall customer experience.

It’s essential to clarify that this is solely an upgrade process, and meters will not be recovered unless they fail to upgrade or are found faulty. Customers can be assured that the focus is on improving the existing meters, not replacing them.

When to upgrade your Yaka meter

To keep customers informed, Umeme will send SMS notifications to the telephone number registered with their offices, notifying them of the planned upgrade in their area. This ensures that everyone is well-prepared for the upcoming changes.

For those eager to upgrade before their scheduled time, Umeme provides an option to visit the nearest service center with your meter number and initiate an upgrade request. This proactive approach allows customers to take charge of the upgrade process.

Customers will be pleased to know that the meter upgrades come at zero cost. Umeme is committed to providing this essential service to customers without imposing any financial burden.

How to upgrade your Yaka meter

Umeme has introduced a user-friendly approach for customers who prefer a hands-on experience.

When you receive the 3 sets of tokens, it will be a 60-digit code in this format:

xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx, yyyy yyyy yyyy yyyy yyyy, zzzz zzzz zzzz zzzz zzzz

Press the tokens in the order they are displayed (separated by a semi-colon). Start with the xxxx, after successful loading, follow with the yyyy, after successful loading, then finally enter the zzzz tokens.

The 60-digit code received during the upgrade can be manually entered in a specific order, making the transition to the upgraded system seamless.

How do I check if my Yaka meter is upgraded?

Different meter types have specific codes to check upgrade status. Conlog, Hexing, Chint, and Inhemeter meters all have unique indicators to confirm whether the upgrade was successful.

For a Conlog meter: Press #005#, r1:t2 means not upgraded, r2:t2 or r2:t10 means upgraded.

For Hexing and Chint meters: Press 873 and press “Enter.” 01 means not upgraded, 02 means upgraded.

For Inhemeter meter: Press 873 and press “Enter.” If the meter displays 01-02, it means it’s not upgraded, and 02-02 means the meter is already upgraded.

    New Yaka Meter Installations

Umeme ensures that all new prepaid meter installations will come with the upgraded version. This commitment to installing the latest technology from the outset guarantees a more advanced and efficient system for new customers.

For those unavailable before November, Umeme teams will visit premises to upgrade meters directly from the poles. This is to ensure that all customers have the opportunity to benefit from the upgrade, even if they can’t be present during the scheduled time.
