Huawei appoints Ms. Meng Wanzhou as new Rotating Chairperson

Huawei has appointed Ms. Meng Wanzhou as the Rotating Chairman of the company.

Huawei has officially welcomed Ms. Meng Wanzhou as its new Rotating Chairman, a position she assumes today, October 1, 2024. This six-month tenure will see her at the helm until March 31, 2025, taking over from Erix Xu (Xu Zhijun), who held the role since April 1, 2024.

Under Xu’s leadership, Huawei made significant strides in enhancing its hardware and software capabilities, a legacy that Meng is expected to build upon.

In a statement released by Huawei, it was noted that during her time as Rotating Chairman, Meng will not only oversee the company’s operations but also lead the launch of Huawei’s much-anticipated Mate 70 series of smartphones.

This flagship line is set to reinvigorate the company’s smartphone business and is expected to be unveiled in various models, including the Mate 70 Pro and Mate 70 RS Ultimate. As Meng stated, “I am excited to lead Huawei during this pivotal time as we continue to innovate and deliver exceptional products to our customers.”

Meng Wanzhou’s journey with Huawei began in 1993, and over the years, she has held several key positions within the company. From serving as the global accounting director to becoming the CFO of Huawei Hong Kong and later the president of accounting management, her extensive experience has been instrumental in shaping Huawei’s financial strategies.

Since 2003, she has spearheaded initiatives to unify Huawei’s financial operations globally, ensuring that the company remains agile and competitive in an ever-evolving market.

Her leadership has been marked by transformative projects such as the Integrated Financial Services (IFS) transformation program, which enhanced management practices across Huawei’s global operations.

“Under my guidance, we have established a world-leading digital and intelligent finance organization,” Meng remarked, emphasizing her commitment to leveraging technology for better management and decision-making.

As she steps into her dual role as Rotating Chairman and CFO, Meng will also work closely with Huawei’s board of directors and executive committee. Her strategic vision includes implementing advanced risk control models powered by AI algorithms, further solidifying Huawei’s position in the tech industry.
