    MTN Uganda unveils Market by MoMo, a digital marketplace for businesses

    MTN Uganda has officially launched Market by MoMo, a groundbreaking platform designed to transform how Ugandans buy and sell products. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Mastercard, aims to connect traders and consumers seamlessly, offering a wide array of products ranging from electronics to groceries, fashion, beauty, fitness items, and appliances.

    What is Market by MoMo?

    Market by MoMo is a digital marketplace that empowers local businesses. The platform is designed to be user-friendly and accessible through the MTN MoMo app or online at market.momo.africa. Notably, it’s zero-rated for MTN customers, ensuring that everyone can shop without worrying about data charges.

    Brian Mutungi Tukahirwa, E-commerce Country Lead for MTN Group Fincommerce, emphasized the platform’s potential during the launch event: “Market by MoMo combines variety, convenience, and secure payment options, making it a transformative tool for Uganda’s e-commerce sector.”

    This initiative is set to benefit thousands of traders by allowing them to showcase their products to millions of potential customers while enjoying perks like free packaging, marketing support, and quick settlements. So far, over 3,500 local businesses have joined the platform, fulfilling more than 5,000 orders.

    Richard Yego, representing MTN’s CEO at the launch, highlighted how Market by MoMo expands the MoMo ecosystem beyond just payments and transfers. CFO Sarah Bateta Okwi added that this platform opens up new opportunities for traders while enhancing customer value. 

    As we approach the festive season, shoppers can take advantage of discounts of up to 60% on select products, making this an ideal time for consumers to explore what Market by MoMo has to offer.

    The launch of Market by MoMo aligns with MTN Uganda’s vision of leading digital solutions that contribute to the country’s progress. In partnership with Mastercard, MTN is building a bridge toward a more inclusive and connected future for Ugandan businesses and consumers alike.
