Everything we know about Threads, Twitter’s alternative

Social media platforms are constantly evolving, and there is no exception. In an effort to expand his group’s offerings and provide users with a new way to engage in conversations, Mark Zuckerberg has brought to us Threads – as an alternative to Twitter.

    What is Threads?

Threads is an app designed to facilitate threaded conversations, similar to how Twitter allows users to reply to tweets and engage in discussions.

However, it takes this concept a step further by providing a dedicated space for users to post threads, reply to others, and follow profiles of interest. On the new app, you can post various types of content, including text, links, photos, videos, or any combination of them.

    How does Threads work?

When using Threads, you can start a new thread and choose who can reply to it. This feature gives you control over the participants in your discussions.

Additionally, you can reply to existing threads, and your responses will appear within the thread and on your profile.

The privacy settings of your profile determine who can see your posts. People can like, share, quote, or repost your content, allowing for a dynamic and interactive conversation experience.

How to sign up for Threads

To join Threads, you need an Instagram account. Anyone with an Instagram account can create a profile.

By logging in to the platform using your Instagram account, your profile information, including your username and verification, will carry over. You also have the option to customize your profile specifically for Threads.

    What’s the difference from Twitter?

While Twitter and Threads both enable threaded conversations, they differ in their platforms and specific functionalities.

Twitter is a well-established social media platform primarily focused on short-form text updates. The new app, on the other hand, is an app developed by Instagram to extend their offerings to text-based discussions.

Threads allows for longer posts, up to 500 characters, and supports various media types such as links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length. It is designed to provide a separate space for real-time updates and public conversations, allowing users to follow and connect with friends and creators who share their interests.

    When is it available?

The app is live in more than 100 countries for both iOS and Android platforms. You can download the app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
