Uganda Airlines, the national carrier of Uganda, is set to spread its wings further with the addition of three new routes to its network starting in September 2024. The airline will now connect Entebbe International Airport to Abuja, Nigeria, Lusaka, Zambia, and Harare, Zimbabwe.

This expansion is part of a well-thought-out strategic plan that aims to build a robust regional network to support its long-haul operations, including flights to London. The move is expected to enhance Uganda’s connectivity within Africa, particularly by bridging the East and West, North and South regions of the continent.
The airline’s CEO, Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki, expressed excitement about reaching this milestone, emphasizing that the launch of these routes is a culmination of their three-year strategic plan, leading to the next phase of their 10-year rolling plan. The expansion is guided by meticulous feasibility studies, ensuring the airline ventures into underserved routes with significant potential.
With the addition of Abuja, Lusaka, and Harare, Uganda Airlines expands its impressive list of destinations, which already includes Nairobi, Mombasa, Dar es Salam, Bujumbura, Johannesburg, Dubai, Zanzibar, Lagos, Kinshasa, Mumbai, Mogadishu, Juba, and Kilimanjaro.
The decision to add a second route to Nigeria with the inclusion of Abuja was driven by the country’s status as Africa’s largest economy, offering vast opportunities for business, trade, and investment. Mr. Adedayo Olawuyi, the chief commercial officer of Uganda Airlines, highlighted the strategic importance of Abuja’s central location in Nigeria, facilitating better connectivity to the northern and central parts of the country.
Uganda Airlines remains dedicated to its mission of connecting Africa and promoting seamless travel experiences. The recent increase in flight frequency, now operating 19 flights daily, and the airline’s growing revenue and cargo operations indicate a positive trajectory toward long-term profitability.
