With this innovative solution, users can now access detailed information on how much data they are using on their devices and which applications are consuming the most data. This level of transparency allows customers to have greater control over their internet usage and make informed decisions about their data purchases.

During the launch event at the Airtel head office, Manoj Murali, the Managing Director of Airtel Uganda, emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering their customers. He highlighted the importance of data in today’s digital era, where it has become an essential resource for various aspects of life, including communication, education, healthcare, and access to vital services. As the first 5G network provider in Uganda, Airtel takes pride in playing a pivotal role in shaping the country’s digital future.
The telecommunications industry in Uganda is experiencing significant growth, driven by the increasing demand for fast and reliable internet access. The UCC market report for June 2023 FY 4Q 2022/23 highlights the proliferation of smartphones as the driving force behind internet adoption in the country. It states that smartphones accounted for 99% of new connections across mobile phones and other mobile internet devices. Additionally, the report reveals a 7 million increase in mobile internet subscriptions, reaching 12.5 million in June 2023.
With the growth in data usage and the number of users, there is a need for telecom operators to provide more accountability and value for money to their customers. Airtel Uganda’s Data Usage Manager addresses this need by offering transparency and empowering customers to make informed decisions about their data purchases. This feature is particularly crucial for individuals who rely on mobile data for business, education, entertainment, and other essential activities.
Michael Bamwesigye, the Head of Information Technology and Security at the Uganda Communications Commission, commended Airtel Uganda for their proactive approach to addressing consumer concerns related to mobile data usage. He expressed his excitement about the launch of the Data Usage Manager and emphasized that it demonstrates Airtel’s commitment to listening to their customers and responding to their needs. Bamwesigye believes that this feature will significantly improve the customer experience and journey on Airtel Uganda’s services and platform.
